doug0102 has a lot of good info. The only thing that I would want to add is to make sure that you check around. Cles aren't even needed in my state so if you are the type of person that can study on your own with books from the library, you wouldn't need to pay for them. Just save yourself the money by looking around for cles before signing up if you go that route. The cles are helpful and provide a wealth of information tho. The state exam does cost add'l money to take and if you don't p the first time, you do have to take (and pay) again. You will need to be a realtor for several years before you could become licensed as a broker and own your own real estate office.
