10 years to long?

alright so i went on a trip with my friend, and started being attracted to her, but i have known her for like 10 years and i dont wanna ruin our friendship that we have so idk if i should go for her or not....im like 50% wanna go out with her and 50% afraid that it will end tragically and there goes one of my best friends...suggestions??
